DESIGN WITH PURPOSE

Musings

Musings is where I share reflections on music, culture, myself, and sometimes short stories.

HELLO WORLD. Welcome to Sana’s Musings.

It me. My friend Genesia told me to act coy. I clearly did not listen.

It me. My friend Genesia told me to act coy. I clearly did not listen.

My brain has always felt like a kaleidoscope of images and words. It is always racing. It is always curious. It always asks why and how. It keeps pushing despite setbacks and personal reckonings. In a lot of ways this is good. It keeps my mind ripe for being open and constant learning outside of sitting in a classroom. But sometimes this is exhausting. It has always been a struggle for me to sleep like a normal person. My brain has trouble slowing down and sometimes I will find that I am spread extremely thin like a film of plastic over a large meal: still together and keeping that meal fresh but so vulnerable to tearing. Exercise does clear my sometimes foggy head when I’m really in a rut. Creative outlets like writing, music, and art though, have helped swallow my seemingly boundless energy without the emotional toll that often comes with stress.

In a very long winded way I am trying to say that I am getting back into writing and I hope you might join me on this journey.

I won’t force myself into a schedule for publishing (because for me that rarely works outside the confines of a job) but I will make an effort to block off time to write because 1) We are in quarantine so why not pursue something creative? 2) The brain is a muscle. Mine happens to be fairly active and needs a lot of exercise. This is a new workout routine I am trying.

I hope to write about whatever I’m thinking about in a given week whether it is about how fantasy is an interesting genre for exploring the concept of restorative justice, how our current reality reads scarily close to what feels like cosmic horror, the Sisyphean feeling of washing the dishes, thoughts on the new Taylor Swift album, or why 90s anime has really watered my crops. I hope you stick around for the ride and I can’t wait to see what comes out of this. Stay safe and wear a mask!
